What is KVM Extender?
KVM is an acronym for keyboard, video, and mouse in reference to computer ports. KVM Extender products are connected to these ports through which they extend computer signals. KVM extenders are for extending the keyboard, video, and mouse signals in situations where computers operate from a distant location. KVM extender includes a transmitter connected to keyboard, video, and mouse ports of computer along with a receiver connected at the remote keyboard, display and mouse.
Keyboards, video monitors, and/or mice are usually located within 6 feet or 2 meters of the source PC or thin client. However, there are times when you need to mount a display farther away from the source signal—sometimes in a different building or type of location, such as outdoors, on the process floor, and/or in a hazardous location. One solution is to use a keyboard video mouse (KVM) extender, which is essentially an extension cord for the KVM signals. Industrial KVM extenders allow users to access remote computers that are a couple hundred feet away and keep computers in the IT managed and climate-controlled area, like server room or non-harsh environment. Benefits of using KVM extender are space saving, eliminating the heat generated by computers or keeping computers away from harsh environment.
